Complete and total vindication of Donald Trump, and it means nothing to the political opposition

OK so the Mueller report says there was no collusion between any Americans and the Russians trying to mess with the election.  This reinforces the similar conclusion from the Senate’s investigation.  According to people who are willing to listen to investigators on both sides of the political aisle:

There was

never

any evidence that the Trump campaign was conspiring with Russian agents to interfere with the 2016 election.  There was never any evidence of it.

. . . except for the Steele dossier.  The Steele dossier, which was paid for by Clinton dollars and was full of literally false information.  Including known lies and a prank from 4chan idiots involving prostitutes and urine.  It was known by the FBI to be Clinton opposition research FAKE stories, the dossier.  Some people in the FBI tried to warn other people in the FBI that it was fake and they should be careful with it.  What did they do? they lied to the FISC to get their warrant, and lied again to renew it three times.

So we are interested in the truth, yes?  We are willing to spend ten-millions of dollars and employ dozens of people for years to find the truth, yes?  We don’t want criminal activity to go unpunished, n’est-ce pas?  If that is the case then the question should now properly shift to: why was this done?

Some of us have a pretty good idea of why.  But you’ll want me to take off my tinfoil hat before telling you.  It will sound like madness today.  Let the investigation be concluded and then you will find yourself so shocked at the depth and malignity of this scandal that you will hardly believe it could be real.

********

So now the press corps will shift to mention of Obstruction of Justice by Don John Trump.  I will only remind you of the requirements for a case of obstruction of justice:

  1. There must have been a crime under investigation
  2. The investigation/trial process must have been obstructed somehow, or with corrupt intent someone intended to obstruct the process.

Donald Trump did not collluuuuuuuude with muhRussians to mess around in the election.  There was never a crime and everyone in the investigation knew that.  SO there cannot have been obstruction of justice.  Donald Trump actually took no action to impede the investigation (contrariwise, he co-operated (!) as stated by Messrs Mueller and Barr).  SO there cannot have been obstruction of justice.  The President is the absolute boss of the Department of Justice. He could literally have fired everyone and stopped the investigation.  He could have insisted his underlings stop or actually impede the investigation in various ways, and he never did.  The absolute worst you find in the Mueller report is that he was frustrated and wanted the investigation to stop but utterly failed to stop the investigation.  If words mean anything, then there was no obstruction of Justice by D.J.Trump.

Judge the quality of your chosen source of news accordingly.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Ukraine is not a member nation of NATO.  We have an agreement to help them, between Ukraine and the USA, but that sort of thing has never stopped us from letting a supposed ally be overrun by communists before.  Ukraine is set to lose its Eastern half, or at least a land bridge between Russia and the Crimea, and there is very little Ukraine can do about it but waste men and money trying to stop the Russian-backed “rebels.”  There is currently no major military power-house nation officially involved in this conflict.  On the face of it, we have a civil war in Ukraine and it’s “nobody’s business but the Turks” what happens there.  Russia is officially not involved and we are also officially not involved.  But

General Hodges, commander of our Army in Europe, went to Ukraine and said we are sending a “small number” of “trainers” to Ukraine.  This of course is a euphemism.  It is telegraphing our intent to Russia not to simply allow them to have their way in Ukraine.  Small numbers of training personnel have a tendency to turn into larger numbers of special forces operators, followed by conventional forces in the increasingly-possible run-up to full scale 3rd Generation Warfare.  Leaving aside for the moment that the “rebels” of the DNR are somewhere into 4th Generation Warfare and that it is very hard to win a 4GW conflict with 3GW actions – this is entirely possibly going to turn into President Obama’s Vietnam.  IF he doesn’t act smartly.

First, don’t be surprised to hear next week/month/year that we are going to “lend” our support to Ukraine with unmanned drones or even manned warplanes dropping death on the “rebel” forces.  Of course they have no money to pay us back but what’s a few billion dollars between friends, right?

Second, remember that Russia supposedly was acting in the interests of ethnic Russians when they swarmed in and overran Georgia with military force.  And that Russia killed off the anti-communist Ukrainians in the East of Ukraine after their Revolution, and repopulated the region with ethnic Russians.

Third, remember to snort derisively when someone reports this escalation of military tensions as “unexpected”.  As long ago as two thousand years, we were warned not to be troubled by “rumors of wars” – but anyone paying even a little attention sees the very real possibility of World War Three starting over this little civil war growing up and having babies.

Learn Something New, Every Day!

I, for one, did not know that we went to war over oil. NO, stupid, not THAT war! The war after the War to End All Wars. And we started it. Kinda. Not really, but weak leadership from the POTUS didn’t help anyway.

Cliffs: In 1941 . . .

  • Japan be all up in China’s business
  • USA supplies almost all Japan’s oil and refined petroleum products
  • USA starts licensing shipments of anything to Japan but grants all the licenses
  • President Roosevelt took a short vacation
  • An administration official decided to cut off the licenses (and all trade with Japan)
  • President returns, decides to keep the licenses cut off
  • Japan sees they will soon run out of energy, national leadership undergoes dramatic change with stronger militaristic overtones
  • USA builds air bases across the Pacific Ocean to support a potential war effort, just in case
  • Japan’s new leaders see the new bases as proof of USA hostility
  • Japan attacks USA to prevent being starved of oil
  • (fast forward)
  • Japan, starved for oil in spite of striking first with bullets/bombs, with ALL but two of her cities carpet-firebombed and/or nuked, surrenders a few years later.

See, I didn’t know that “Smart Diplomacy” has a history of egging on people who could have been peaceful (toward us) to war with us in such a dramatically-similar fashion to what is going on today.

Hold on there.

Today, VFD?

Yeah, today.  Russia acts to defend herself when a buffer state (Ukraine) is looking like it will go to NATO and stop being a buffer against the west.  Russia (approximately) gobbles up the Crimean peninsula.  The West imposes sanctions.  The sanctions fail to dent Russia at all, then Russia imposes sanctions and everybody sort-of starts sucking worse than usual in Europe and Russia both.

What does this have to do with Japan, c. 1941 though?  C’mon VFD live in the now!

Russia supplies Europe with natural gas and oil.  As in, without Russian gas and oil, Europe no-kidding collapses as a society.  Russia cutting off energy exports to Europe will damage Europe every bit as much as a shooting war.  And guess who holds the chips in this game of poker?  Hint: it ain’t Europe.  Sure, producers in the USA would be happy to triple energy prices and send tankers over there, and so would China, Venezuela, etc.  That would take, what, a couple of years?  A year at least.  There is no infrastructure to support international (non-Russian) oil and gas supplies in the extent that Europe would need them, if Russia cuts Europe off.

Now I ask you, what is keeping Russia from cutting Europe off cold?

.

.

.

The good will of one V. Putin, that’s what.  And we’re standing outside the sliding glass doors on the back side of his house, pissing on his patio.

This is politics only, my friends.  Simply politics.  Another name for the current situation is “cold” war.  History may not repeat itself exactly, but it does tend to rhyme.  And right now it looks like Dr. Seuss is setting up one humm-dinger of a rhyme with Russian oil and natural gas supplies to the EU.  M. Shedlock notes that Russia could close some valves and trigger a shockwave and the collapse of QUADRILLIONS of dollars worth of derivative investments linked to … well, linked to the idea of the economy of Europe not collapsing.  The worst case is global nuclear war.  A somewhat distant second (from across the pond) is tens or hundreds of millions of Europeans dead due to a societal collapse.  And Russia doesn’t have to fire a shot to do it to them.

Do you call it “war” when your actions cause millions of foreigners to die?  Even if you’re shooting paper airplanes instead of bullets?

“war is the pointy end of politics”

Here We Go?

From Russia to Europe, the global currency crisis might be starting while we sleep tonight.  So says the only economist I trust and read frequently.

So?

So the Great Depression 2.0 might just be on its way finally to the second major downturn.  Certainly a global economic crisis must come, because the people who caused the first one (central banks and politicians) figured the way to prevent it was do the same things as caused the crash in 2008-2009 but do more of them.  A crash is coming.  Has it finally arrived?

The Very Best of Hands

Do you remember when it used to be a thing, that the US media would decry the evils of no-bid contracts issued by the federal government?  You know, like 6 years ago under a non-D president?

So ‘we’ issued a no-bid contract to an American company to launch our [deleted] into outer space (after we turned our space agency into a muslim outreach organization (no, really)).  There’s a guy here (Elon Musk) who makes badass rockets and is not a dirty commie.  He wanted to bid on the contract to send our [deleted] into space on his rockets.  He sued us over it.

Then the Ukraine blew up.  We started a pissing contest with the commies over it.  They just remembered whose car we’re riding to the space station and told us to try using trampolines instead of the Russian rockets we had been using.  Because they’re not selling us any more rockets, hahaha.  Yes, they said trampoline.

You will please excuse me for feeling amused at the Obama administration’s being hoist by its own pitard.

Good News From Around The World

Ace of Spades informs us that the real estate bubble in China is collapsing.  This was the only thing supporting the Chinese economy, and China’s been holding up a lot of the rest of us.  So that should end well.

In Ukraine, separatists are happily taking up the Russian flag when they seize Ukranian state buildings and military equipment.  This is not helping the rest of the world to tell the difference between an oncoming civil war and a Russian invasion of Ukraine.  Oh, plus possibly World War Three starts over this little flapdoodle.

But not to worry!  At least you can rest assured that your own USAmerican tax dollars are being well-spent.  For example, you are paying for a $400,000 statue.  Of a Camel.  In Pakistan.  Enjoy:

Duck and Cover

Remember, children, your desks can be used to deflect the force of a nuclear explosion in case we get the Bomb dropped on us by the Russkies!

This is not a repeat from the 1950s.

It looks like the cold war got a little too cold, or the politicians in America got a little too incompetent, or both, or something . . . but here we are with NATO talking about the whole alliance freezing assets of Russian interests over Russian territorial aggression.  West vs. East and competitive claims of illegitimate national/regional governments.  Chess players are asking what happens if Russia decides to cut off Europe from their sweet, sweet oil and gas supply*.

The President of Ukraine acted against the perceived interests of the Western half of Ukraine, and there were protests.  He left the country and the Parliament kicked him out of office.  He claimed this kicking-out was not legal, and that he is still President.  He is friendly to the soviets Russians so the Russians recognize him as President.  The Crimean peninsula has held an election with an entirely-believable result that 97% of the Crimeans want to break off to be their own country. Complete with some districts receiving more votes than there are people in the district.  Seems legit, right?  Except that the allegedly-illegal new government in Western Ukraine says the independence referendum is illegal.  The newly-possibly-illegally-created Crimean state changed their currency and time zone to match Russia’s and applied to be annexed into Russia.  Russia has recognized the new Crimean state and NATO et. al. refuse to recognize the new Crimea.

Hold on there.

Why is this any more our business than the messes in Egypt or Libya?

It’s not, exactly, but we said it is.  Ukraine used to be a nuclear-armed nation, and they gave up their nukes in exchange for protection from the West, and the USA said specifically we’d have their back if thing ever got ugly.  I guess they didn’t learn too much from Vietnam, who we said we’d also get their back but when it got ugly in South Vietnam we left our “allies” to dangle in the breeze.  So now it’s got ugly in Ukraine and we are . . .  (wait for it) . . . making frowny faces and writing sternly-worded letters to Russia.  Very stern letters indeed!  And our friends, they shall also make frowny faces!  And if the Russians persist in pretending the illegal government of the country with the other illegal government is legal, we shall be forced to Do Something!!

If you are reassured by President Obama when he says he is certain there is a diplomatic solution to the current crisis in Ukraine, remember one very, very important maxim:

War is the pointy end of diplomacy.  Certainly there is a diplomatic solution.  It may involve the termination of human life on Earth, but it is part of diplomacy – if you will allow that diplomacy is not all soft and fluffy.

********
*Within two years we could have pipelines shipping oil and natural gas from the Americas to Europe under the North Atlantic.  Do not hold your breath waiting for this common-sense solution to be implemented.

Yes It Can Happen Here

Sergey Larenkov has an impressive series of perspective-matched photos of then-vs-now in various places in Russia. I was reminded by some of them that “it can’t happen here” is a very poor excuse for a mental defense against anything, including war. Check out the contrast: people going about their lives vs. soldiers going about their duties, on the same street.

Very interesting. If the militia called you up, would you be ready to switch from going about your life to going about your duty? Would you even be willing? Hat tip to Every Day No Days Off

One Jerk Spoils It For Everybody.

You have to meet with a child at least THREE times to adopt him from Russia. One would think you would be able to tell that he is a boy and have a clue that he was a bundle of energy. If you subsequently adopted him, you would have accepted these facts if you were a person without psychological problems.

The stupid [deleted] who put her adopted Russian 7 year-old on a plane -by himself- to Russia with only a note that he has psychological problems, herself has psychological problems. This is the equivalent of calling 911 for a garden snake in your yard, except this time it has made life hard for other people. Russia has (one hopes only) temporarily suspended adoptions to the USA until this sort of thing can be sorted out. Look for some sort of monitoring or reporting requirement for future US adopting parents.

1,800+ Russian children with basically no other hope were adopted to families in the US last year. Now the prospective families of those still in Russia will have additional hurdles to cross if/when Russia allows them to rescue their children again.

Jail time is what this woman needs. And a whole heaping lot of it. Anything could have happened to the boy, but he appears to have arrived physically unhurt. Jail time and a beating or three.
